¡A Practicar! Practice Makes Perfect!
One unique aspect of SOL programs is taking students to
authentic locations to practice their Spanish in real-life situations.

From left to right: Columbus Sheraton Suites Hotel Sales Manager Yúdith Carrasquero helps SOL students practice making hotel reservations during a simulated exercise.

Yúdith was “excelente” – speaking 100% in español!

Sandy Stevens, Jackie Gutter and Jeff King did brilliantly, relying upon content learned in Beginner III Review and earned a “super- bien.”

The good news is – they all ended up with a sea-view room!

Conversación y Comida Class

Advanced students enjoy authentic Latino food and 2 hours of conversación completely in Spanish during the Conversación y Comida class. Each week students rotate to a different Latino restaurant. Below they sampled food from El Salvador such as papusas y yucca.

Papa Simón’s in the Town & Country Plaza off E.Broad Street.

Buenos dias profesoras,

I just wanted to give both of you a progress report. I returned to Papa Simon's last Thursday to inquired about when they would be open for lunch. Once I got there, there was only one employee there. I asked her what time did they open for lunch and she said "Perdon?" She then made a motion to call someone from the back but I stopped her and asked her "Que hora abre el restaurante para almorzar manana?" and low and behold before I was finish she was answering me in espanol. Now granted I was excited that I was able to ask the question without halting and searching for the words but I was estatic in being able to actually speak to someone with confidence. I returned there with a friend who mine who was one of my spanish teachers. She is from El Salvador and I wanted to take her to the restaurant. She pointed out the food from the menu that is eaten in her country and explained the way it is eaten (the pupulso...is that correct?). Of course I reverted back to English with the staff there because I realized as long as someone else is there to speak for me, I'll let them speak. Our waitress spoke both english and spanish and she remembered that our class was there last Tuesday. My friend and I had a very relaxing lunch there. Food was just as good.

Just wanted to share my baby step. It let me know that I am making progress because too often I get frustrated. I think the conversational spanish class is helping a lot in this area.

Nuestro Programa (Our Program)

FUN,” “unique” and “rewarding” is how students describe the programs offered through Speak Our Language. We pride ourselves on demonstrating GREAT teaching and showcasing an EXCITING classroom environment! Our program is FUN in that we provide your child with interactive, engaging, and meaningful lessons. The unique quality we provide is involving our parents directly in a “hands-on” learning experience. The reward in our program is your child having the opportunity to learn the Spanish language and culture, alongside you- the parent - who can reinforce the lessons at home throughout the week. ¡Qué bueno! (How great!)
